About

About this site

Network Security Edu is a free, gamified course in computer and network security. It is built for anyone curious about how the modern internet defends itself, students, career-changers, working developers, and the security-curious public.

How it works

Twenty modules are organized into five chapters. Each module exists in three depths: Beginner (analogies, no math), Intermediate (protocols and code), and Advanced (RFCs, cryptographic detail, real CVEs). Modules end with a self-check quiz. Where it makes sense, a hands-on mini-game turns the same concept into practice.

XP, levels, badges, and streaks are visible but skippable. Reading the modules without ever earning a badge is a perfectly valid way to use the site.

Open and private by design

There is no account, no login, no analytics, no tracking. Your progress lives in your browser's local storage. You can export it as a JSON file from the Progress page and import it on another device.

The site is open source. Code is licensed under MIT; the written content is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Issues and contributions are welcome.

Stack

Vanilla HTML, CSS, and ES-module JavaScript. No framework, no build step, no backend. Web Components for reusable UI. Hosted on GitHub Pages.

Limits

This is a learning site, not a certification. The Advanced track aims at the depth of a good undergraduate course, but you should pair it with the books and courses on the Resources page if you want to go further.
